Apparently this is being caused by the latest version of Little Snitch (2.1.1 and nightly builds since) that was released the day before 10.5.7. MacFixIt user "Scott B." reports: "I dropped you a line last night about getting hungup AFTER login (the "space" screen) in 10.5.7. Little Snitch 2.1.1 causing hangs after log-in I did and every time it reboots into the kernel panic screen. It then went to the gray screen with a kernel panic and a power button icon in the middle of the screen with a message asking me to reboot the system. The Mac immediately rebooted and came back up to the white screen with the Apple logo. Upon completion of installation a message popped up stating the download was corrupt or damaged. It then started the installation on shutdown as per usual. The system asked to be rebooted and I confirmed.

MacFixIt user "K.J." writes: "I downloaded the 10.5.7 update through the software update application and let it install on my late 2008 24-inch iMac. One other person on Macintosh reported a similar problem." My wife, also with a MacBook Pro, is not having this problem. In the end I had to go back to a 10.5.6 Super Duper clone of my disk. I tried zapping PRAM and deleting caches to no effect. I had to hold the power button to turn it off.

When I closed my MacBook Pro it did not go to sleep, the backlight was still on, and the machine was frozen with no cursor. MacFixIt reader "Nate G." reports: "This was the first disastrous update for me. I was using it before the update same day." MacFixIt reader "Christopher A." writes: "I have updated to 10.5.7 and now Corel Painter 11 is completely broken. Download the updated version of the software from Adobe and install it, version 9.1.1. Uninstall your previous version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.Ģ. "Ron R." later writes in to tell us how he solved this issue.

I've installed the patch put out today (Acro 9.1.1) and that didn't seem to help.

However, as MacFixIt reader "Ron R." relates: "I can't seem to get Acrobat to run since installing Mac OS X 10.5.7. I guess Microsoft didn't do much testing of Apple's updates during the seeding period.d'oh!"Īdobe has updated its Acrobat Reader software to be compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.7. But I freshly installed Office after removing all turds and the problem still happens with 12.0.0 on Mac OS 10.5.7. I first though it was the 12.1 and 12.1.7 Office updates I put on during the same round of updates. I have confirmed this on a number of machines. MacFixIt user "Charlie" writes: "The 10.5.7 update breaks synchronization between Entourage and Exchange 2007. We cannot stress enough how important it is to back up your system before doing any software update, but especially when installing a major operating system update.
